Founded in 2006 under the patronage and vision of HH Sheikha Shamsa Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan, President’s Assistant for Women’s Affairs at Emirates Red Crescent, Alghadeer Emirati Crafts is a non-profit organization that empowers the local community to craft their way to economic sustainability. From tools and materials to training and marketing services, we at Alghadeer (meaning small stream that promotes growth in Arabic) provide the essential resources to establish the crafts we inherited from our ancestors as a catalyst for social development. Through Sadu, Khous, Telli, and Pottery among other crafts, we bring together traditional practices with contemporary designs, preserving our heritage by means of handcrafted home accessories, stationery, fashion, and corporate gifts.
We set out to enable hundreds of women in the UAE with the skills and know-how to build a sustainable stream of income and support their ambitions through crafts. I am proud of our craftswomen at Alghadeer and the level of finesse they handcraft every product with in the UAE. HH Sheikha Shamsa Bint Hamdan Bin Mohammad Al Nahyan, wife of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Red Crescent Authority earned a Bachelor‘s Degree in Law and Sharia from UAE University. Her Highness holds many posts, including Vice President of the Red Crescent for Women’s Affairs; President of Women & Health Alliance International (WAHA); Chairman of the Higher Committee for the Ataya Project; Honorary President of Abu Dhabi Autism Centre; Honorary President of the Emirates Autism Society, President of Women and Society Committee inAl Dhafra Region and Patron of the educational programs at the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation.
